Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance has announced that online registration for their Coast to Coast Cycle Challenge 2020 will open on Wednesday 4th December 2019. Supporters wishing to take part next year will have to be quick, as demand for the 600 places available is once again expected to be high.
Next year sees the 20th Anniversary of Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance and it will be the Charity’s 10th Coast to Coast Cycle Challenge. In the past nine years, this tremendous event has raised over £563,000 which is truly incredible. Based on the approximate cost of a mission equating to £3,000, this means that those who have supported or participated in the event over the years, have helped to save or enhance 188 lives.
The Coast to Coast Cycle Challenge is not designed as a race and involves cycling through some of Dorset and Somerset’s most beautiful countryside. It will take place on Sunday 17th May 2020.
There are two different routes and distances, both suitable for all ages and abilities. For those who like a challenge, the brilliant 56-mile cycle which starts at 11.00am in the Somerset port of Watchet and finishes at West Bay near Bridport will not disappoint. A shorter 11-mile route starts at the Royal Oak public house in Drimpton at 2.00pm and also finishes at West Bay.
With a mixture of quiet back roads, interspersed with some very demanding climbs and equally hairy descents, the event has something to offer for everyone! There are a number of pit-stops along the route, which provide a well-earned rest and refreshments for those that want it.
Participants can enter as an individual or as a team and the Charity is hoping that anyone who is fortunate enough to gain a place, will use the opportunity to raise additional funds by asking their family, friends and colleagues to sponsor them.
Bill Sivewright, Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance Chief Executive Officer said: “Our next Coast to Coast Cycle Challenge takes place in our 20th year as a Charity and it is the 10th Coast to Coast event we have organised. Those are two excellent reasons for not missing out. However, because we feel that more cyclists participating could be intimidating for the less experienced cyclists and potentially spoil the atmosphere of the event, we are continuing to limit the number of participants to 600. That is why we hope that if you assure yourself of a place, you will go the extra mile to raise more sponsorship than ever in celebration of the double celebration ‘20/10’”.
Online registration will open at 10.00am on Wednesday 4th December 2019 via the Charity’s website: www.dsairambulance.org.uk/c2c where more information can also be found.
Entrance fees are: Adults (£30) & Under 16′s (£10).
