Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance is once again encouraging supporters to sign up early for their Coast to Coast Cycle Challenge 2019 after another fantastic response last year.
The event, which is not designed as a race, involves cycling through some of Dorset and Somerset’s most beautiful countryside and takes place on Sunday 12th May 2019 at 11.00am.
Last year’s event raised in excess of £62,000 and sold out within a few days of online registration being open. This year, the Charity is hoping to raise even more and is strongly encouraging those who are fortunate to gain a place, to raise additional funds by setting up a Coast to Coast Fundraising Page via the Charity’s website or by completing a sponsorship form.
With only 600 places available, those wishing to take part will need to be quick to avoid disappointment. Participants can enter as an individual or as a team by visiting: www.dsairambulance.org.uk at 10.00am on Tuesday 4th December 2018.
The Coast to Coast Cycle Challenge offers two different distances. For those who like a challenge, the brilliant 54-mile cycle which starts in the Somerset port of Watchet and finishes at West Bay near Bridport will not disappoint. A shorter 11-mile route starts at the Royal Oak public house in Drimpton at 2.00pm and also finishes at West Bay.
Bill Sivewright, Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance Chief Executive Officer said:
“We are thrilled to be able to announce the date for our Coast to Coast Cycle Challenge 2019. This will be our ninth year in the saddle and once again we are restricting our numbers to 600 cyclists. With such a demand, there will undoubtedly be those who are disappointed not to gain a place which is why I cannot stress enough, how important it is to register early!
“Our Coast to Coast Cycle Challenge is simply that… it’s a Challenge. It’s also the only fundraising event that we organise ourselves. The fact that all cyclists, no matter their age or ability take part, makes our Coast to Coast Cycle Challenge ever more popular and the atmosphere at the start, en-route and at the finish line is immense.
“This year we will be focussing our communications on the difference that those who are fortunate enough to gain a place can make, by raising additional funds through sponsorship. In a bid to raise as much as possible this year we have increased our entry fee for adults to £30. Our child entry price remains the same at £10.
“Preparations are well underway and we are really looking forward to making this the best Coast to Coast Cycle Challenge yet.”
